Weekend in Review.

This past weekend is somewhat of a blur. It consisted of baseball, baseball... and more baseball. Yes.

The first tournament of the year... and it was COLD (to say the least)!

Max's 12u AA team, the Tulsa Tide, played out of Jenks this weekend. This is the first year that this particular group of boys have played together. They've been practicing since January, and seemed ready to play. Lots of excitement in the air.

I'm a little teary eyed as I think of the following statement. Not sure why, but here goes...

This is the first year in three years that Max has been able to wear a baseball cap on the field. There. I said it.

Up until this point, he played catcher... and catcher alone. That's all he did. And the gear for that contains a helmet/face mask. Hence, no baseball cap needed.

Friday night... 8pm... game one of the tournament. Lights on. Bats ready. Coaches 'stoked', as we were told in an email. Parents ready to watch their kidlets take the field and play some ball. But first...

We had to dawn the appropriate accessories. In addition to the team hoodies, tshirts, and hats, we were in need of some serious WINTER APPAREL. Yes, I said winter. You see, when we arrived at the fields, it was a blustery 29 degrees. And windy. BRRR.

Toboggans, gloves, scarves, jackets, and blankets all around. It was stinkin COLD!

The boys took the field... Max at first base, and began the game. This game was close. So close, in fact, that it ended in a tie.

We left the field, got home, and got into bed. (Still cold.)

When I woke the next morning (Saturday), my face was terribly windburned. Red, splotchy, dry patches on my cheeks... and I felt like my face was on fire. So, what did I do? I did it all over again! That's right, folks. The baseball continues.

Saturday night... 6 pm. Game two was about to begin. Wintry temps again... oh joy. (Note to self: move!)

Where was I? Yes... baseball.

Game two didn't end favorably. Tulsa Tide lost this one. Hoping to get it going for bracket play, which begins at 10 am, Sunday morning.

Again... cold. I don't like cold.

Game one of bracket play... Tide losses. We go home. The good thing about this particular game is that Max got to play catcher... that's where he's comfortable.

All in all, I'm proud of all of the boys on his team. It was the first time playing together... they will get a rhythm. They WILL get a rhythm.
